CMP Importing Content Tutorial

In this tutorial you will learn how to use CMP to import content from TRS2004 for use in TRS2006

1. Importing Content

There are two different methods to import content into TRS2006. The first method is select "Import Content" from the "File" menu and then navigate to the assets you want to import. If you only have a small amount of custom content in TRS2004 then all you need to do is select the "downloads" folder from within the World/dispatcher folder in the TRS2004 install directory. If you have a large amount of custom content i.e.anything above half a gigabyte then I suggest you split the downloads folder up into smaller segments and import each segment one at a time. Remember the more content you try to import in one attempt the longer CMP will take to respond to user input again. Once you have imported the content then you need to switch to the "Open for Edit" tab and select all the listed items. You can do this by either right clicking and using "Select All" from the context menu or you can press Control A which will have the same effect. Once selected right click and select "Commit" from the menu options. You should now be able to use the content in TRS2006 provided there are no serious errors in the individual items, in which case those particular items would not work correctly or at all.

2. Importing CDP files

The second method for importing local assets into TRS2006 is to select "Import CPD's" from the "File" menu. Use the file navigation box to select the CDP file you want to import and click on OK. The CDP file should be imported and installed. Once again you will need to commit the asset to the database before it can be used.

3. Considerations

There are couple of items that should be considered before importing content from TRS2004 or from CDP

a) Quantity of content - . The first and most important is that the amount of content importing at each attempt is reduced to amounts of less than half a gigabyte or less of data. The more content you attempt to import the longer CMP will take to import it and also to commit it to the database.

b) Commit before launching TRS2006 - If you have the option "Automatically commit and reopen assets" selected then ensure you commit the newly imported assets before launching TRS2006. Failure to do so will cause the entire list to be opened upon exiting TRS2006 and they will need to be recommitted before TRS2006 is restarted.
