Replacing default trucks in TRS2004

In this tutorial you will learn how to replace the default bogeys with custom trucks. Images are from UltraEdit using a custom text highlighter

1. Finding the kuid numbers

In the CCG is a complete listing of kuid numbers for the built in /trucks. In this example the built in bogeys that we are replacing are under the kuid number -10:174. Which is the flatcar_bogey [PS]. The [PS] means it is a Paint Shed asset. Trainz Objectz can also be used to find the kuid numbers of default or custom items that you want to change.

2. Opening the config.txt file

Once you have downloaded and installed the trucks that you want to use you need to open the config.txt file in a text editor. For this example we will be editing the config.txt of my 36inch 2 Axle Truck kuid number 86105:50003. Navigate to your TRS2004 directory and then navigate to the World\Dispatcher\Downloads\kuid 86105:50003 directory. Open the config.txt file. You should have text similar to figure 1.

3. Replacement using the obsolete table

The easiest way to replace the trucks on all the rolling stock is to add the kuid numbers of the trucks we want to replace to the obsolete-table. As you can see in figure 2 these bogeys already have an obsolete-table and there is already some entries in the table. This is from the pre TRS standards when the only way to update the older version of an object was to give the new version a new kuid number and add the old version to the obsolete-table in the new version. Most objects on the DLS will have an obsolete-table similar to figure 3 or they will not have one at all in which case you will need to enter the obsolete-table into the config. Make sure you include the last bracket.

To obsolete the default trucks with the kuid number -10:174 you need to add the line shown in figure 4. This will cause any rolling stock object that uses the -10:174 trucks to instead use the 86105:50003 trucks. If the obsolete table already contains one or more entries then you will need to add a new line with its own number for each additional kuid you want to obsolete. Figure 5 shows the obsolete-table with 6 different versions of trucks obsoleted.

4. Alternate method

Another method of changing the trucks is to open each rolling stocks config.txt file and edit the bogey entry contained within. Figure 6 shows a typical rolling stock item with the 86105:50003 trucks. In this example there are four bogey entries. The first two refer to the actual trucks/bogeys and the second two entries refer to couplers. If you change all the entries or the incorrect entries then you will end up with trucks appearing where they should not appear. Some rolling stock will only have one bogey entry and others may have two or more.

5. Deleting the chump file

Once you have made the changes to the config.txt file save and close the file. Then navigate to the TRS2004\Cache directory and find the world_cache_Dispatcher.chump file. Select it and delete it and then start TRS2004 and the new trucks should now appear on all the rolling stock items that use the old version. If you did not delete the world_cache_Dispatcher.chump file then TRS2004 will continue to use the old version.
