History

When I first purchased Trainz I was extremely happy with the way it is presented and the community support available via the forums. Originally I was happy with the content available on the Download Station but as time progressed I decided that there were a few things missing. I then decided to try and produce a cement tanker that used to visit the local bulk cement transfer station. Unfortunately I was unable at the time to find any information on the tanker and I shelved it. Then I tried to build a six axle tanker and because I had more experience with AutoCAD I used it to create the tanker and then export it into 3DStudio. Unfortunately this did not work well as it ended up with far too many polygons. I then gave up all together for a month or more until I finally found some plans for the cement tanker. I decided it was time to learn how to use 3DStudio Max. I had quite a few problems with the first model but I did not give up and eventually I had a model that I could upload. I then went on to build more rolling stock and animations etc. but the biggest challenge I have had is the SD70MAC. I don't know exactly how many hours I have spent getting the mesh the way I want it but in my opinion it has all been worth it. I am by no means an expert on 3DStudio Max or Gmax but I can create content that is at least on par with the experts. Now I spend more time creating than I do actually playing the game. The point of this story is don't give up. Everyone must start somewhere. I still remember when I first started out that there is a serious lack of tutorials out there so I have decided to address this problem with my own set of tutorials.

This site creation was started on the 20 July 2003.

Forum Posts (12th December 2005)

Recently my models and/or creation methods were critisized fairly heavily on the Content Creation Forum at the TRS2004 web site. The instigator of the critisizm I had considered to be a friend however after his attitude on the forum I no longer consider him as a friend. At first I had no idea what the reasoning about the unprovoked attack was about until his second last post whereby he admitted albeit in an indirect way that it was not so much the quality of my models that he had a problem with but the fact my models are payware. He apparantly has a problem with payware creators even though all of the other creators he mentioned in the posts are also payware creators. Sure I most likely used some of his advice in the creation of my payware items in the same way that my tutorials have been used to create locos that may one day be in direct competition to my own but I am not worried about it. I like to think that people will do the right thing and so far for the most part they have. You can rest assured that as a payware creator I do my utmost to create the most realistic locos using the least resources. If you can point out valid errors in my models then I will be more than happy to change them to be more authentic or to provide better performance. Let me know your thoughts on this subject here

Relaunch of the Freeware SD70M and what it means for the SD70M and SD70MAC range available at World of Trainz. (20th February 2007)

Recently Sporbust has decided to continue development of his version of the SD70M and also mentioned that he would create the SD70MAC. While I consider this to be a very low and despicable act by Sporbust whom I helped out several times when he was starting out and has also admitted to using my tutorials for his creations, overall it will have no effect on World of Trainz's range. The SD70M and SD70MAC will continue to be offered as payware. They will continue to have features that have not been matched by any other creator either Payware or Freeware. World of Trainz also offers continued support for all locomotives purchased from this site which is something some Freeware creators neglect to provide. The SD70M and SD70MAC are scheduled for an upgrade before the end of the year which includes better texturing, version 3 of the refueling script and improved performance. There will also be additional models added to the range in the update. World of Trainz policy of continued upgrades will continue. One also has to question the accuracy of shape and models offered by freeware. I have noticed several people asking for locomotives in company colors that never used the particular model and the creator being oblivious to the fact. The amount of research put into a models creation appears to be very lacking by some creators who appear to use the "as long as it looks close" policy. World of Trainz attempts to be 100% protoypical. If any detail is out of place on a World of Trainz locomotive then let me know and it will be corrected (Proof of requested correction required) Let me know your thoughts on this subject here
